The Hong Kong Institute of Education for Sustainable Development (HiESD) is an interdisciplinary research-based and innovative application institute. Since 2003, it has dedicated substantial effort to promote the United Nations Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) by carrying out forward-looking research, setting standards, and promoting quality education. HiESD is the partner-expert and service provider of the UNIDO (IRD Ref No. 12958), the partner-expert of the UNDESA (registration number: 26908), and a member of the UN Sustainable Development Solution Network (UNSDSN). HiESD is a member institution of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres, and Associations, the founding association and secretariat of UNESCO HKA, the host of UN75 Dialogues, and the co-organiser of the thematic side event at the China Pavilion of the 29 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29).

Many courses and projects of HiESD are integrated into the talent development schemes and fundings of the government. Demonstrating our alignment with local, national, and global agendas. The post-graduate diploma training and certification on sustainable development planning (SDP) for professionals from different industries, training on SDP reports, and sustainable development regional and interdisciplinary research projects. Through providing both online and in-person trainings, establishing networks, and encouraging and supporting SDP professionals to pursue further education and certification.

HiESD aims to establish a lifelong learning system for sustainable development and ESD for 2030 in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and worldwide, thereby accelerating progress towards achieving the SDGs.
